Utah is home to a strong network of federal and state programs designed to support veterans and their families. Whether you need health care, mental health services, housing assistance, or help navigating your VA benefits, there are multiple entry points to get connected quickly. The George E. Wahlen Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City serves as a primary hub, and community-based outpatient clinics are located in several regions across the state.
The Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs (UDVMA) is the state agency specifically dedicated to helping Utah veterans access the benefits they've earned. UDVMA accredited Veterans Service Officers (VSOs) can assist with VA claims at no cost to you. If you're unsure where to start, calling 2-1-1 Utah connects you to a local specialist who can assess your full range of needs—from food and utilities to emergency housing—and refer you to appropriate programs.
Veterans experiencing a mental health crisis or thoughts of suicide should call or text the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and press 1 to reach the Veterans Crisis Line immediately, available 24 hours a day. You do not need to be enrolled in VA care to use this line.

Utah Department of Veterans and Military Affairs (UDVMA)
Helps Utah veterans file VA disability claims, access state veteran benefits, and connect with education, employment, and financial assistance programs. Accredited VSOs provide free claims assistance.

VA Salt Lake City Health Care System
Provides primary care, mental health services, specialty care, substance use treatment, and other medical services to eligible Utah veterans. Community-based outpatient clinics extend coverage to rural areas.
How to access: Call 1-800-613-4012 to enroll in VA health care or to reach the Salt Lake City VA. You can also apply online at va.gov/health-care/apply. Eligibility is based on service history, not income alone.
HUD-VASH (HUD-VA Supportive Housing)
Combines HUD Housing Choice Vouchers with VA case management services to help homeless or at-risk veterans find and maintain stable housing.
How to access: Contact the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System's homeless veteran services team at 1-800-613-4012 and ask for the HUD-VASH coordinator. You can also call 2-1-1 Utah to be connected to local Continuum of Care housing resources for veterans.
Veterans Crisis Line
Free, confidential crisis support for veterans, service members, and their families experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, or mental health emergencies, available 24/7.

2-1-1 Utah
A free statewide helpline connecting veterans and their families to local resources including emergency financial assistance, food pantries, LIHEAP utility help, SNAP food benefits, transportation, and more.
